

Melba was born in Hayes and lived most of her life in Westlake. She was a kind and loving mother who was devoted to her family and home. She enjoyed gardening, working with puzzles, sewing and crocheting, for which she won numerous awards at local fairs and events throughout the years. She volunteered many hours at local schools and charitable events while her children were still at home. Mother’s quick wit, humor and love of life will always be remembered in the lives of those she touched.
She is survived by her six children; sons, Charles White and wife, Sheila of Hayes, Ricky E. Fletcher of Lake Charles; daughters, Cheryle Abshire and husband, Ron of Welsh, Debbie Johnson and husband, Tim of Lake Charles, Leta Beauchamp and husband, Mike of Texas, DuJuanna Samuels and husband, Les of Atlantic Beach, FL; daughter-in-law, Gaye Fletcher of Carlyss; siblings, Howard Bourgeois of Hayes, Nelson Bourgeois and wife, Verna of Lake Charles, Paul Bourgeois and wife Betty of Hayes; eleven grandchildren, numerous grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orelian and Elia Bourgeois; her loving husband of 46 years, Everett Weldon Fletcher; sons, Donald M. White, Kenneth M. Fletcher; brother, Wilford Bourgeois and grandson, John E. Abshire.
Her funeral will be 10am, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Her grandson, Aaron Fletcher will be officiating the service. Visitation will begin Wednesday 5pm-8pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and resume Thursday 8am until service time. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder.
