Norma was born and raised in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, on January 29, 1941, to John and Mary Broussard. She met Allen Hebert, the love of her life, at Holly Beach. As the wife of a career Marine, she lived in California, Virginia, Kansas, and Louisiana before settling in the city of her dreams, Houston, Texas. Norma always loved being on the road with Al, especially driving back home from their great adventures. Above all, she was happiest when surrounded by her family.
She was an inspiration of service, love, and determination to all her family. Small in stature, Norma could stand ten feet tall when required. Whether preparing her family for another cross-country move, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or cooking a pot of her favorite chicken and sausage gumbo, Norma was a force of nature who accomplished whatever needed to be done.
A wake will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at J.E. Hixson & Sons Funeral Home, located at 3001 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM. Following the services, Norma will be laid to rest next to her husband, son, and other loved ones at Our Lady Star of the Sea Cemetery located at 135 Our Lady Road, Cameron, Louisiana. In keeping with Mom’s joyful spirit, we ask guests to wear comfortable, happy attire—nothing formal, just something that feels light and easy.
Norma leaves behind two daughters, Cheryl Gale Sweigart and husband Paul of Middletown, Pennsylvania, and Donna Hebert Acosta and husband Matthew of Kingwood, Texas; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lonie Mallet of Hathaway, Louisiana; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. She was deeply loved by every one of them.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen Joseph Hebert; her son, Allen Keith Hebert; her parents, John and Mary Broussard; her sisters, Aline Hoffpauier and Edwina Leonard; and her brother, Essey Broussard.
