Dr. Peter Raine Brosnan passed peacefully from this life surrounded by family and friends on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 5:05 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Peter was born on September 28, 1943 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Walter J. Brosnan and Alma Linnéa Raine Brosnan. Peter grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from Worcester Academy in 1961, then attended Boston University. His love for this nation and the sea moved him to enlist in the US Navy, where he was a Radio Mechanic and a Surface Sonar Operator. He served in Vietnam and was Honorably discharged In 1969 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Dr. Brosnan then worked for the San Francisco transit authority digging tunnels underneath the streets of San Francisco. He suffered severe injuries as the result of a cave-in while packing explosives on the job. Chiropractic saved his life and restored his ability to walk and function properly. He was so moved by the healing powers of chiropractic in his own life, that he made the decision to enroll in Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He married the love of his life, Norma Jones in 1973, and moved to Iowa with her and her amazing son, Devin Leonard Williams. They then had a son together, Eiric Vincent Brosnan in 1974. Due to the fact that Louisiana was the last state to legalize chiropractic, Peter chose to move to Louisiana to fight for chiropractic on a professional and political level. In 1979/1980, he worked for Willie Jagneaux D.C. here in Lake Charles, LA. Willie and his wife Loretta quickly schooled Peter and his family on the way of life and culture here in Southwest Louisiana. He was hooked right from the get go.
He then opened his own private practice in 1980 here in Lake Charles, LA. He was the lead practitioner and clinic director doing consultations, examination, diagnosis and treatment of nuro-muscular skeletal conditions, both acute and chronic. Also, including inter-professional referrals, specifically orthopedic, neurologic and medical radiographic. He created, developed, and implemented “Natural Discoveries” (a management and staff presentation for the general community including stress management, injury prevention, and personal motivation). He was elected three consecutive times to the Board of Directors of the Chiropractic Association of Louisiana; founding member and contributor to Louisiana Chiropractic Political Action Committee; consultant to “PPO of America;" “Distinguished Lecturer” at Texas Chiropractic College; designed, implemented and presented, “Back School” program for PPG Industries, resulting in 100% reduction of back injuries on and off the job; affiliated with Spinal Health Data Research and Development; Palmer College of Chiropractic Alumni Association; Chiropractic Rehabilitation Association; Counsel on Internal Disorders; and the Oklahoma state Workmen and Compensation management board for the inclusion of chiropractic care and treatment.
Dr. Brosnan achieved the Diplomate of American Academy of pain management, Sports injury counsel. He was certified to perform Manipulation Under Anesthesia. He was awarded the Ambassador, Life College of Chiropractics Distinguished service award. He was a member of the American Chiropractic Association-Council on Chiropractic International; appointed by Governor Edwin W. Edwards to the Louisiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners; appointed by Governor M. J. “Mike” Foster to the Louisiana board of Chiropractic Examiners, where he served as a board member, secretary-treasurer, testing committee chairman, model disciplinary code committee, standards and practices committee member, the Presidents Advisory Council and Board President. He was a part of the National Board of Chiropractic examiners test writing committee and was a practical exam test examiner. Dr. Peter was a member of the Federation of chiropractic licensing board, Delegate, District V; and a Louisiana trial lawyers Association, chiropractic delegate.
Dr. Brosnan was such a dynamic life force! He was so alive, alert, and enthusiastic with the joy of living. His integrity and generosity overflowed into every facet of his professional and personal life. He was a man of Christ and loved the Lord, lifetime member of Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International Promise Keepers, past pointman, ambassador, and media representative, and a Professor of Leadership at Cornerstone University. He was a board member for 30 years with The Potter’s House, a homeless shelter for women and children. Also associated with the Lords Outreach, a homeless shelter for men. He did a prison ministry with Phelps correctional center. Prayer warrior extraordinaire. He loved to pray and worship with his First Church family.
Dr. Brosnan loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, and loved riding his motorcycles. He was involved with a motorcycle ministry with Kenneth Copeland, which he was proud of. He loved to swim and surf in the oceans. He was an athlete, loved playing tennis, soccer, basketball, rugby, and martial arts. He was a soccer coach, leading many teams to state championships. He loved music, he played the piano, guitar, trumpet, and loved to sing. He was also involved in the theater in San Francisco. He was such an encouraging magnanimous human being, loving and living life to the fullest, and all the while, reaching, teaching, and treating people with the utmost respect. His love for his family and friends was Extraordinary. He loved to go on exploration walks with his granddaughter, Nico.
Those left to cherish his memory include; his wife of 48 years, Norma J. Brosnan; son, Eiric V. Brosnan; granddaughter, Nico Ray Linnèa Brosnan “Papi Love Nico”; brother, David Brosnan and wife Barbara; sister, Charlotte Perry; stepson, Devin Williams and extended family, Josh and Trisha Williams and their children, Caleb, Dillon, Savannah and Harmony Williams, Kay Williams, and John Chatman; sister-in-law, Suzanne McGowan; along with Michelle Williams and all of his friends and colleagues.
