Richard J. Yelvington died on February 24, 2013 at a local care center. He was born on July 27, 1928. He was a native of Florida where he was an all-state high school football player. After graduation he entered the army, and was captain of the 24th Corps football team while stationed in Korea. He was a graduate of the University of George where he was a four year letterman in football. He was co-captain of the 1950 team. After college he played tackle for the New York Giants football team for six years including the 1956 championship team. After leaving the NFL he worked for the U.S. Government as a narcotics investigator. First with the Treasury Dept., later with the Justice Dept. He moved to Lake Charles in 1993 and married Peggy S. Quirk who had been a classmate of his in high school. The body will be cremated and services will be held at a later date in a family cemetery in Florida.
