

Lake Charles - Sam Raymond Collura, 94, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 in a local care center.
He was a 1940 graduate from Lake Charles High School. Mr. Collura enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served until 1945. He was a Radioman/Gunner on a B-17 in the North Africa and Mid-East Theater of Operations as part of a photo-reconnaissance squadron. At the end of WWII Sam's squadron was part of the 8th Air Force based in England. After the war he was a draftsman for various companies including, Shell Oil.
He is survived by one brother, Morris Collura of Lake Charles and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Felix and Fannie Mosca Collura; brothers, Louis and Johnny Collura; sisters, Lena Cascio, Mary Ragusa and Jennie York.
His service will be 11:00am, Friday, February 28, 2014 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm with a Scripture Service at 6:00pm and resume Friday from 9:00am until time of service. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery.
