She lived in the lake area for sixteen years, was a homemaker and and home educator for her children as well as a devoted and dedicated children's bible class teacher. She loved to spend time with all of her family and enjoyed putting together reunions. She also worked for Volunteers of America after hurricane Rita as a resource coordinators for those in need and loved meeting and getting to know new people. She was a true Will Rogers type of person, "I never met a man (person) I didn't like". Shirley was a member of the Southside church of Christ. And embodied the character of the woman in Proverbs 31. She loved crafts such as scrapbooking, needlework and embroidery stitching many pillows for nieces and nephews. Her favorite color was purple and she loved to blow bubbles for joy. In true southern tradition she enjoyed the finer cuisines that life had to offer and would constantly be looking up recipes for her husband to cook. She also loved to enjoy a good chocolate cake... or anything chocolate.
She is welcomed into heaven by her parents faithful members of the church of Christ.
Those left to cherish Shirley’s memories, and is held in their hearts by husband, Steve Maurer of Lake Charles, LA; son, Seth Maurer and wife Meagan of Trenton, FL; daughter, Crystal Baize and husband Jonathan of Houston, TX; brothers, Cecil Parks of Texas, David Parks and wife Karen of North Richland Hills, TX; sister, JoAnn Turner and husband Roy of Houston, TX; four grandchildren: Gwendolyn Grace Maurer, Emmett Drew Baize, Sean Ward Maurer, and Emily Elizabeth Maurer.
