Sybil was a resident of Cameron, LA for most her life, and then of Many LA, “The Lake” for the last 15 years.
As a young adult, she had the privilege of traveling throughout the majority of the United States while she was a truck driver. She was super spontaneous and took many road trips with family and friends. And if you ever happened to be a traveling partner with her, you’ll remember she always “took the scenic route.”
She was a devoted Catholic who loved her God. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. However she was most notably a friend and known as “Nanny Bo” to all! She never met a stranger and quickly helped whoever and however needed, whether it was by giving the last can of vegetables from her pantry or the last dollar from her bank account. She was also deemed a “baby whisperer” who loved every child she encountered and if around her long enough, she was sure to teach them sign language and how to write and spell their name.
She absolutely loved learning and even began taking college courses later in life. She could have easily been a contestant on Jeopardy, which was a favorite show of hers. Sybil had a beautiful voice, loved to sing and sang at every service she attended. She had an unforgettable laugh and could easily be overheard amongst a crowd and had a deep baritone voice and laugh. She had a whistle that was equally unforgettable. Sybil was an amazing cook and had a passion for feeding family and friends any chance she could get! She also loved flowers, gardening, and feeding all the birds and squirrels in her yard while living on the lake in Toledo Bend.
Those left to cherish her memory are husband, Leon Shane Higginbotham; son,Jedediah Higginbotham and fiancé Sheryl Hoffpauir of Many, LA; daughters, Jasmyn Marcel of Houma, LA, Shayne Inness and wife Ashley of Florida, and Amanda Verdin and fiance Jacob Porche of DeQuincy, LA; brother, Alan Porche and wife Lisa of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters, Mary Ellen O'rourke and husband Don of Arnaudville,LA; Gaylyn Whittle of Many, LA and Marilyn Porche Delauny of Welsh, LA; grandsons, Lucus Marcel and William Marcel of Houma, LA, Trevor Verdin of DeQuincy, LA; granddaughters, Electra Verdin of DeQuincy, LA and Nevaeh Porche of DeQuincy, LA.
