

Thomas Jesse Doland known to everyone as Tom, to some Tommy, to some Doctor Tom was born in Grand Chenier Louisiana February 14, 1924 to Samuel Shelton and Ethel McCall Doland. He farmed and went to school there until he graduated high school in 1936. His brothers were Nolan and Everett and his sisters Sophie Johnston, Linnie Belle Emmons and Mary Elaine Cohen all of which precede him in death. His wife Ida May Brupbacher also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters Ann and Sue and his son Sammy all of Lake Charles; Five grandchildren and Thirteen great -grandchildren. He was a World War ll Navy Veteran of the Pacific conflict on the battleship BB41 USS Mississippi. Immediately after the conflict he married Ida from New Orleans and lived in Lake Charles where he was employed in the fertilizer business with Kelly Weber and Occidental Chemical. He also worked at Curries Farm Supply and the Garden Center at Walmart. He also did a stint in aircraft sheet metal in San Diego before being drafted in 1943. Tom attended Oak Park Methodist and Bethel Presbyterian with Ida. He was an avid gardener and kept neighbors, friends and family in fresh vegetables for years. He later resided at the Veterans War Home, in Jennings LA, in the company of war heroes. Tom Passed on October 10, 2017 to meet his wife Ida with Jesus. He loved to make pralines, divinity and pork roast with crackling’s on top.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home on Friday October, 13 2017 from 4pm until 8pm and will resume the following day at 9am.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Garden. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
