She was born to parents Emily and Vernice Dulpechin Young in Pine Island, LA on April 05, 1934.
She was very active in the church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters for both St. Raphael and St. Peter. She was a member of the Dominican Laity. She was a secretary for St. Raphael for a number of years. Velma loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is greeted in Heaven by her parents; husband of 70 years, Lucien Leger Jr.; brother, Bobbie(Eula Mae)Young; sister Bernice (Jerry)Donahoe; three grandchildren, Brent LaComb, Krystal Leger, and Chivas Leger; great-grandchild, Brynn Menard; and niece, Bethel Anne Donahoe.
Her memory will be fondly cherished by her three children, Brenda LaComb, Randy Leger and wife Desiree, and April Leger Domingue; grandchildren, Brad LaComb(Chrystal), Emily Walker(Joshua), Sam Bennett, Chelsea Sanders(Devin), Summer Menard(Justin), and Travis Gill; great-grandchildren, Kade Leger Gardner, Hunter Gill, Colton Menard, Harlow Walker, Aubrey Menard, Landry LaComb, Ryan LaComb, Bryce Menard, Tenley Walker, and Mia Kate Bennett. She will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends.
The family would like to invite friends to Hixson Funeral Home at 3001 Ryan St. Lake Charles, LA, 70601 on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 8:30 am for visitation until the time of service at 1 pm in the Chapel of Peace. A rosary will be recited at noon by the Catholic Daughters. Father Tony Fontenot will officiate services.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Jennings, LA.
