Allen Hamp

Allen Hamp, age 84, passed away on August 4, 2026. Born on May 3, 1942, to Roger and Bernice Hamp in Lake Odessa, MI, Allen’s life reflected steady devotion—to family, to faith, and to the work set before him.

Allen graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1960, where he served as class president. He went on to earn an associates degree in Agricultural Studies from MSU. A three-sport athlete in Baseball, Football, and Basketball, and a member of FFA, Allen carried forward a disciplined, hard-working spirit and a patient determination that would remain evident throughout his years. Together with Mary they hosted 22 foreign exchange students as well as helping running the program at the school. This led to many wonderful vacations to visit those they hosted.

Al worked for 40 plus years at John Deere until his retirement in 2012. Through decades of consistent effort, he built a legacy of reliability and perseverance—quiet strengths that spoke clearly in the way he approached his responsibilities and provided for those he loved.

On July 13, 1963 he Married Mary Jane Hunt, and together they were blessed with three children: Brian (Amy Goeteluck) Hamp, Craig (Joy ) Hamp, and Tina ( Torsten Zemke ) Hamp. He is also survived by grandchildren Phillip Hamp, Timothy Hamp, Ben (Christina) Hamp, Travis (Kachel) Hamp, and Emmalee (Zack) Kraabel, as well as great grandchildren Cheyenne, Wyatt and Dakota. He is survived by brothers Doug (Georgia) Hamp, Lavon (Marsha) Hamp, and Jerry (Janet Tiffany) Hamp. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Michael Hamp.

Al gave generously of his time, coaching little league for many years in Middleton, including a remarkable stretch of winning 5 years in row. He also found enjoyment and renewal in being an avid snow skier, and in golf, and hunting—interests that reflected both an appreciation for the outdoors and the steady patience he brought to life.

A faithful presence in his community, Al was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church and served on the Lake Odessa Planning Committee. In these commitments, as in all others, he lived with constancy and care, offering his time and attention in ways that strengthened the people and places around him.

Allen Hamp will be remembered with gratitude and respect for a life marked by faithfulness, hard work, and enduring patience—qualities that shaped his family, his work, and his community for the better.

Visitation will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 5pm until 8pm with Rosary held at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 6, 2026 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lake Odessa starting at 11am.

Memorials are suggested to St. Edwards or to Hospice of Lansing in Al's name.
