

Betty I. Highlen, age 86, of Lake Odessa went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 19,2016 at her daughter’s home in Ionia. Born to Osborn and Orpha (Kelley) Putnam on January 20, 1930 in Vestaburg, MI. Betty was premature and was placed on the oven door to keep her warm. Her skin was too thin to touch and she had no eyebrows or fingernails, but thanks to God and Betty’s will to live she made it. On September 22, 1951 she married Clare E. Highlen and spent 59 wonderful years together until his passing in 2010. Betty loved Pepsi, playing games and embroidery especially pillows. Most of all she loved her family and friends and the time spent together.

Betty was preceded in death by her father Osborn, mother Orpha, sister Arlene Putnam, brother Wayne Putnam, two grandchildren Melody Highlen, and Yvonne M. Bailey, and her husband Clare E. Highlen.
Betty is survived by Joyce Ann (Terry) Lahnert, Wilma (Michael) Bailey, Dale Leroy (Phyllis) Highlen, Eva Lucille (Nathan) Parker, Darwin Earl (Nancy) Highlen, Delbert Lyle (Nedra) Highlen and Marilyn Faith Highlen, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and sisters in law Audrey Putnam and Betty (Verle) Highlen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5pm until 8pm at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11am at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia next to her beloved husband Clare.
