Lake Odessa – Charles Farrell Sr, age 94 passed away peacefully on October 6, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born August 20, 1927 in Sunfield Michigan to Ray and Hattie (Eldridge) Farrell. Charles grew up in Sunfield and moved with his family to Lake Odessa as a child. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the military where he served as a military police officer in Germany. Once he returned, he married the love of his life Gretchen (Scheidt). Together they raised their three sons Mark, Charles Jr and Gary while working their farm outside of Lake Odessa. After retiring from farming, he worked for Frost Heating. In retirement, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events. Charles was the all-time handy man and was called upon often by family for help. He never used a manual and had a natural ability to piece together anything. This ability was passed along to his family as he mentored them throughout life. In his later years, Charles loved mowing the lawn and could be seen on his lawnmower daily. Other hobbies included playing cards, tractor pulls, snowmobiling and watching the Detroit Tigers and Pistons. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gretchen (Scheidt), brother Raymond, sister-in-law Mary Ann, sister Alta Mae Frost, daughter-in-law Theresa (Spetoskey) and companion Ruth Courtney. Charles is survived by sons Mark (Denise), Charles Jr (Edith) and Gary (Kellie). Grandchildren: Luke (Angela), Josh (Ashley), Brittany (Tony) Potter, Nathan (Katrina), Lindsay and fiancé (Dave Thomasini), Adam, Lacey, Lauren (Josh) Anzell, Step Grandchildren: Kylie (Zach) Wilson, Natalie (Ryan) Urie, Mason Blackmer, Nick (Lauren) Hilley, Jessica (Matt) Cathcart, Kristin (Brian) Satterly and 19 Great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Frank (Bud) Frost and many nieces and nephews. A small visitation will be held from noon to 1:00 on Monday, October 11 at Koops Funeral Chapel with a private family service to follow. Charles will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery of Lake Odessa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Spectrum Health Hospice or Lakewood Athletic Association.

Mark, Chuck, Gary and families, we send our condolences and pray for peace in your hearts as you say goodbye and celebrate the life of your Dad. Wes said that Charles was one of his favorite uncles. He was good to Marian. It's so nice that you all lived nearby, especially in the later years of his long life. May you find comfort in your memories and in knowing that, among others, Theresa and your Mom especially welcomed him with open arms. Hugs to you all.

I will always remember going to the store and Chuck would be sitting in the truck while Gretchen was in the store. He said he'd sit there all day because Gretchen always talked to everyone she seen...she always had alot to tell us...we always miss her....then when Ray and I bought our first house Chuck and Chuckie came out and did all our doors....and Mom took care of Adam when he was young...we always thought the world of Adam and it's funny to see him so grown up....They all have been such a nice family and Uncle Chuck will be missed. We send our thoughts and prayers to all the family.

Mark, Chuck,Gary and to all the family members, sorry for your loss, I will always remember in our younger days going over to the house and your Mom and Dad would normally be sitting at the kitchen table playing cards. With sincere simplicity
