

Dennis James Geiger, 63, of Charlotte passed after battling cancer, surrounded by his loving family at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. Born in Pigeon, MI on March 28, 1958 to Kenneth L. and Dorothy (Stutzman) Geiger. Dennis's family moved to Lake Odessa in 1967 and he graduated from Lakewood High School in June of 1976. He played on the 1975 Lakewood High School State Championship Basketball Team, who will be inducted in to the Greater Lansing Area Sports 45th Annual Hall of Fame this year. Dennis joined the U.S Navy in December of 1982 retiring in 2002 as an Information Technology Chief. While serving he received the Joint Service Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal (2), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle "E" Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5), National Defense Service Medal (2), C Service Deployment Ribbon (2), Overseas Service Ribbon and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. His retirement ceremony was held on board the USS Missouri, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Post Naval retirement he worked as a rural mail carrier in Lake Odessa before joining the Defense Logistics Agency in Battle Creek again retiring in March 2017. On June 12th, 1990 while stationed in the territory of Guam he married the love of his life Mary Jean McGinnis.
He will be dearly missed by; wife Mary Jean, father Kenneth, siblings Yvonne Flagg, Marcia (Norman) Kinney, Terry Geiger, Linda (David) Smith, Deanna (Steve) Converse and Regina Geiger, sister in law Joan McGinnis Welch and family, cousin Debbie Fairfax and family, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy.
A Celebration of Dennis's life will be held on Friday, July 9th, 2021 at 11am at the Lakewood United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project. Online condolences can be left at www.koopsfc.com.
