OBITUARY
Donald Hummel
December 10, 1931 – March 22, 2021
Donald Eugene Hummel, 89, of Lake Odessa passed peacefully away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings, MI. Don was born the fourth of five sons to Guy and Beatrice (Frey) Hummel in Sebewa, MI on December 10, 1931. In 1951 he married Marion Brightbill and spent the majority of their married lives in Lake Odessa until her death in 2015. Don was always a very hard worker, usually having at least 2 jobs. He worked as a mechanic, also logging with his father & brothers and retired from Keeler Brass Co in 1993 after 40 years. Don had a great zest for life and always loved to have fun! He made every occasion into a nonstop time of jokes and much laughter. He loved to have company, and family gatherings and many times preparing much of the food himself. Don loved to serve others, especially his church. He accepted the gift of salvation and acknowledged Jesus as his Lord in the 1970’s and faithfully served wherever he could. Don was an avid outdoorsman loving to hunt and fish, enjoying golfing at Morrison Lake; playing cards, especially with good friends Roger and Bernice Hamp. Even later in life as he battled dementia, he enjoyed being around people and the staff at Thornapple Manor became his second family. He will be dearly missed by; children David (Joyce), Ken (Penny), Lori (LeRoy) Wortley, sister in law Jean Hummel, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his wife Marion, parents, brothers; Leonard (Vada), Clifford (Jeanette), Lyle and Harold (Phyllis). Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 26, 2021 from 11am until 1pm at the Living Gospel Church, 1600 Rochester St., Lake Odessa, MI. Funeral services will begin at 1pm that day. Burial will take place immediately following at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials to the Living Gospel Church. Online condolences can be left at www.koopsfc.com

So sorry to the Hummel family for your loss of Don. I worked with him and Dave at Keeler Die Cast for many years. Don was always such a pleasant man with nothing bad to say about anyone. Dave had a great roll model for he very much was as pleasant as his father. May the Lord bless you with the strength you need to help all of you through this difficult time. Memories are a treasure.
