Francis E Simon, age 97, passed away on June 5, 2026 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born December 9, 1928, to Arthur and Clara Simon in Portland, MI, Francis lived a long life marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a gentle, compassionate way of caring for those around him. A resident of Lake Odessa, Michigan, he will be remembered with deep affection and enduring gratitude.
Francis served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. In the years that followed, he worked for GM until his retirement—bringing to every day the same hard-working spirit that defined his life and the same dependable dedication that made him so beloved.
Francis’s greatest joy was his family. He met Jeannette Carey after picking her up off the street one night, and together they shared 75 years of marital bliss, never arguing once—a testament to the steadfast love and tender patience that anchored their home. From their union came daughter Jeanne Ayres, son Thomas (Dorene) Simon, and son John (Teresa) Simon. Francis was also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and he held each of them close in heart and in daily life. He is also survived by brother Paul (Yukie) Simon.
A true jack of all trades, Francis could fix or build anything. His hands were rarely still, and his care often showed up in the most practical—and memorable—ways: making the kids and grandkids unique and cool toys, including a pontoon bike, a powered ice sled, and a mini bike. His creativity, patience, and gentle attentiveness turned ordinary moments into stories that will be retold with smiles for years to come.
Above all, Francis was a family man through and through; his activities revolved around the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the closeness he nurtured, the kindness he practiced, the work ethic he modeled, and the compassion he gave freely—day after day, year after year.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Simon; his son-in-law, Mike Ayres; and 5 siblings.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
