

James served his country with distinction in the Air Force as a Military Police officer during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Alaska. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a Journeyman Millwright, working at GM and Dana in Lansing, Universal Metals in Saranac, Michigan, and Michigan Stamping and Plating in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A self-taught carpenter, he enjoyed flipping houses with his wife.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jo (Garner-Gearin) Clemens, who passed away in 2020, as well as his sons Kenneth Gearin and Edward Gearin, three sisters, and three brothers. He is remembered fondly by his daughter Cheryl (Jerry) Gunn, his grandchildren Angela Gearin, Christina Thomson, Jessica Gearin, Jennifer (Ray) Rathbun, Derek (Melanie) Gunn, Cody (Shanon) Gearin, Brandi (Nick) Young, and many great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In his personal life, James had a passion for fishing, flying his airplane, and driving his motorcycle and boats. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, visiting the casino, and attending stock car races. He held a special fondness for Torch Lake, Michigan.
James Clemens will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
According to his wishes cremation is to take place and no services held at this time.
Donations to the St. Jude's Children Hospital in James's name would be appreciated.
