
Joe Allen Hyatt, Sr., aged 60, of Lake Odessa, passed away peacefully at his home early Friday morning, December 4, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Joe was born in Bristol, Virginia on August 2, 1949 to Jake and Evelyn Ruth Hyatt. Joe's father died when Joe was a baby, and he was raised by his step-father, William Roark. Joe was united in marriage to Linda Hurd on January 31, 1970. Joe and Linda moved to Michigan with their family in 1974. Through the years, Joe had worked for the Lake Odessa Co-Op, Builder's Lumber, Scenic View Dairy, and Morris Farm. He had enjoyed camping and fishing with his good friend, Al Southwell. Joe is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Joe Hyatt, Jr. (Jessie), Tim Hyatt (Judy), and Duane Hyatt (Lori); grandchildren, Chaz, Garrett, Alexis, Taggart, Aislinn, Taylor, Brody, and another grandchild to be born in March; brothers, Charlie Roark, Ronnie Roark, David Roark, and Jimmy Roark; sisters, Carolyn Holman and Katie Blackburn; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Robert Roark. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 8 at the First Congregational Church in Lake Odessa (767 Fourth Ave.). In lieu of flowers, please consider the needs of the family.
