John grew up in Owosso, graduated from high school in 1979, and went on to attend Michigan Tech, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering.
He worked at Attwood Marine for many years and later retired from Steelcase, concluding a career marked by steady dedication and professionalism.
On March 19th, 1994, he married Melissa Sporman. He leaves behind his wife, Melissa; daughter, Sydney (Clint Kupiec) Holtforth; siblings, Paula Holtforth and Sharon (Terry) Yarbrough; mother-in-law, Rosalie (Carl Pfeiffer) Sporman; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Joan Holtforth, and his son, Lucas Holtforth.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church on October 9, 2026, at 11am family will meet with friends and family 1hr prior to Mass starting at 10am, burial to take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa following Mass.
Memorials in John's name can be given to the family and be made out to Sydney for her to decide at a later date.
