Philip built a life marked by steady work, quiet strength, and a deep regard for others. Throughout the years, he was known as a beloved presence—loyal to those he cared for, resilient in the face of hardship, and consistently generous with his time and effort. His kindness was not performative, but practiced: offered in small, faithful ways that made people feel seen and supported.
He worked at Oldsmobile until taking an early retirement, choosing to pursue a passion for fitness by selling fitness equipment and owning his own gym. Even in that new chapter, Philip’s hard-working nature remained evident—he brought the same diligence and reliability to every responsibility he accepted. Later, he seized an opportunity to serve as a funeral assistant at Koops Funeral Chapel, faithfully supporting families and his community for many years, until his health required him to slow down.
Philip’s commitment to Lake Odessa extended beyond his work. He was actively involved through St. Edwards Church, served on the village council, and continued to give of himself through his service with Koops—always with a gentle steadiness and a sincere desire to help.
Philip was a faithful man to all those he loved and called friend. His gentleness was rare, and his passing leaves a very big hole in the hearts of all that knew him.
Philip is survived by his wife, Catherine Bartlett; his children, Anthony (Hailey) Bartlett, Paul Bartlett, Benjamin (Amanda) Abbate, and Katie Al-Dayni ; grandchildren Amibell Bartlett, Zooey Bartlett, Elijah Bartlett, Mahdi Al-Dayni, Frances and Sloane Abbate, his brothers, Pat (Robin) Bartlett and Steve (Linda) Bartlett; his four legged sidekick, Charlie; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents Orvin and Agnes Bartlett, brother Rick Bartlett.
From all of us at Koops Funeral Chapel and Cook Funeral Services in Grandville, MI: we will miss Philip dearly. His steadfast willingness to do whatever was necessary to take care of others in their time of need will be hard to emulate but never replaced.
