

Richard “Dick” Burgess Doane, age 80, of Lake Odessa passed away on January 16, 2016 at Spectrum Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Dick was born on December 21, 1935 in Lansing to Raymond and Alice (Burgess) Doane. He was a 1953 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and of Michigan State University in 1957. Dick proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Europe where he met his wife Rosemarie in Germany, whom he dearly loved and treasured for their 56 years of marriage.
Dick worked for Auto Owners Insurance Company for 14 years, he attained his CPCU and then purchased an Independent Agency in Lake Odessa, MI, Doane-Smith Insurance where he worked until his retirement. He was an active member of the Lake Odessa Lions Club for many years, served several terms on the Lake Odessa Council including the Waste Management Authority. Richard loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family and at his cottage on Lake Michigan and traveling to Europe.
Richard is survived by his wife Rosemarie (Mueller) Doane, daughter Kerry (Kenneth) Stensen of Grand Ledge, son Mark (Kimberley) Doane of Lake Odessa, grandchildren Andrew, Mackenzie and Cameron Doane, Lauren, Taylor and Nicole Stensen, sister Jackie (Dennis) Bailey, niece Kristen (Darrin) Garris and nephew Michael (Cathy) Bailey and several great nieces and nephews along with wonderful friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Koops Funeral Chapel from 5pm until 8pm. A memorial gathering will be held at the Centennial Acres Golf Course and Banquet Center 12485 Dow Road, Sunfield, MI 48890 on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 1:00pm with Military Honors.
