

Fredric William "Bill" Cowley, age 83, of Lake Odessa, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in Troy, Michigan. He was born September 5, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio the son of Albert Frederick and Gladys Lillian (Buhrow) Cowley. Mr. Cowley served in the U.S. Navy & U.S. Army during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Lansing American Legion Post. He married Marian Alice Bulmer on December 20, 1950 in Lake Odessa. He was a school principal and teacher at Emerson School in Ionia and was a teacher in the Lansing Public School system, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association. Mr. Cowley was one the board members (25 years) and one of the developers of Centennial Acres Golf Course in Sunfield. He was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne M. Cowley Nash in 1985. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Marian Cowley; sons, William G. Cowley (Gloria) of Dardenne Prairie, MO, and Eugene F. (Kathy) Cowley of San Jose, CA; daughters, Jan M. (Mark) Lachniet of Wake Forrest, NC and Diane M. (Todd) Meredith of Troy, MI; five grandchildren, Mork Lachniet, Mason Lachniet, William Lee Cowley, Nathaniel Meredith and Ryan Meredith; brother David C. (Donna) Cowley of Lumsden, Canada; sister, Sally (Jack) Taylor of Sun City, FL; brother in law, George (Jenny) Nash of Metamora, MI. A memorial reception will be held from 2-4 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Koops Funeral Chapel Lake Odessa, Michigan. Interment will take place at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's name may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
