Adela “Kuki” Maroño Moran was born on June 5, 1934 in Havana, Cuba to Jose Maroño and Magdalena Gayoso, originally from Galicia, Spain. She was married in 1958 to the love of her life, Juan Moran. In 1966, Adela immigrated to Spain with her daughter Ileana “Lily,” before moving to Detroit where she built a new life and was welcomed with open arms within the warm Cuban community. The friends she made in Detroit became a lifelong support system for both Adela and Lily. In 1979, Adela moved to South Florida and spent her best years with her sister, Magdalena Garcia, and her dearest friend Hiriana Stolber.
Adela was the life of the party. She lit up every room she walked in with her positive energy. She was known for her vibrant and joyous personality, her passion for food and music, and her incredible singing voice. She was a wonderful and supportive friend, a giving mother, a doting grandmother, and more recently a very beloved great-grandmother.
Adela is survived by her daughter, Ileana; her son-in-law, John; her grandchildren, Mikael and Monika; their spouses, Vicki and Eric; her great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Luke, Lila, and Sophia; and her nephews, Jorge and Jose “Pepi.”
She will be remembered by all the words of encouragement and advice she offered to friends and family, her beautiful voice, and the light and life that she brought to every room she entered.
