It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Cora (Corona) Nicosia, who left us on August 15, 2026. Born on April 28, 1926, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Cora was the cherished daughter of Anthony and Loretta Esposito. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and an enduring positivity that touched everyone who knew her.
Cora's journey through life was filled with music, laughter, and the warmth of family. Growing up in a household that celebrated music, she developed a love for dancing and cherished the moments spent with her family. Cora had an indomitable spirit and sunny disposition. She was a beacon of strength, and had a unique ability to make the best of whatever life brought her way. Her infectious joy for life left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
In her early years, Cora moved to Hollywood, Florida, where she worked diligently as a waitress, in order to raise her 4 children on her own. Her career was marked by hard work and dedication, traits that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Cora was a devoted mother to her four children, Joe, Patricia, Bob, and Gregory, whom she shared with her first husband, Joe Coppoletta. After their divorce, she found love again with Mickey Capone with whom she shared many happy years until his passing. Many years later, she found love yet again with Joe Nicosia, who she married and shared many beautiful trips to Italy until he passed.
At age eighty-eight, Cora who liked that particular age number, stuck with it for some time to the point where her cousin, Junior said “Cora is eighteight for the fourth time”. During that same time, Cora was interviewed by her sons, Joe and Gregory. During one of those interviews, she told them “I am eighty-eight, but I can do anything a twenty-five-year-old can do.” And declared “Nobody had a better life than me”.
Cora's legacy lives on in her surviving family: her sister Gloria, her children Joe, (Kathy), Patricia, Bob, (Candy), and Gregory, and her seven adored granddaughters—Michelle, Kate, Danielle, Melissa, Corinne, Kimberly, and Tiffany. Her love extended to her ten great-grandchildren: Emmet, Sterling, Jack, Savannah, Chase, Luke, Noah, Harper, Charlotte, Caleb, Ava, and Ella, who affectionately knew her as Granny.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Arbor Terrace in Hollywood, Florida, who filled the last decade of Cora's life with comfort and care. In honor of Cora's memory, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association, to support the continued fight against this disease.
Cora Nicosia will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit, like her beloved music, will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
Among the gifts that Cora possessed, where incredible strength, powerful courage, unending positivity, self confidence, charm, beauty, uniqueness, loyalty, stamina, dedication, a gift for acceptance, a huge heart for compassion and love, and most of all fun loving!
Her son Bob describes her as “the best mother anyone could have”.
Cora Esposito Coppoletta Nicosia was one of a kind, and absolutely stupendous! And we are all grateful to have had her in our lives.
At every celebration, Cora would make a traditional Italian toast and cheer for living 100 years, "Cent'anni!", which literally translates to "100 years" and means "May you live 100 years! And by God’s good graces, she did….
