Born in Bronxville, New York, he was one of eight siblings, including his twin brother Bobby. After graduating with a B.B.A., majoring in Accounting from Clarkson College (now University) where he played on the hockey team, he married Carolyn “Trinkie” Steadman. They moved to Fort Gordon, Georgia where he reported for active duty as Assistant Budget Officer at the Southeastern Signal School Headquarters. After two years, they moved south to the Palm Beaches where he worked as a CPA with a national and local firm before opening his own firm in 1979, successfully practicing up until 10 years ago. He continued serving six additional years in the Reserves with the 3220th Army Garrison in West Palm Beach where he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
For the past 60 or so years, he served in different capacities on the board of directors at the regional and state level of numerous organizations including the American Heart Association, YMCA, Rotary, Civitan, Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce, Lake Worth Towers, Lake Worth Jaycees, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also donated multiple gallons of blood to the Palm Beach Blood Bank. He was a founding member and parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he served as president of the finance advisory committee and was a lector and eucharistic minister.
He is survived by his children, Francis J. McMahon, Jr. (Tina), Timothy H. McMahon (Denise), Terence P. McMahon, and daughter Deidre “Dee” M. Wade (Michael); grandchildren Francis J. McMahon III (Natalia), Joshua McMahon (Caroline), and Haley Wade; and great-grandchildren Valentina, Renata, and Johann. He is also survived by his twin brother, Robert W. McMahon. He is predeceased by his wife of nearly 68 years, Carolyn (Trinkie) S. McMahon.
Visitation will be at Dorsey – E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth on Friday, July 18 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Mass on Saturday, July 19 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 W Lantana Rd, in Lantana at 10:00 am.
