Mr. Spooner was the principal during my education at Wellington Elementary School. One of my earliest memories is Ms. Atkinson's kindergarten class "field trip" to Mr. Spooner's office.
Through the Safety Patrol I was first introduced to the value of protecting others and one's community. It was during the Safety Patrol trip to DC that an 11-year-old 5th grader first saw halls of democracy and the monuments to those who made them possible. That 5th grader also saw, as he walked down 17th Street next to the National Geographic Museum, the motorcade of one of our national leaders. Yesterday, that former 5th grader, now a Special Agent in his early 30's, was in a motorcade driving down that very same street. As we passed the National Geographic Museum, I said to myself, "Thank you, Mr. Spooner."
Mr. Spooner's support of the Safety Patrol led to a spark of curiosity that shaped the course of my career two decades after I graduated from his school; I am honored to have been one of his students. His legacy lives on in each student that he inspired.

To the Buz Spooner Family....
We have so many wonderful memories of the days that we were able to spend with Uncle Buz and Aunt Verlie in Florida. They invited us to be guests in their lovely home on several occasions, gave us a vehicle to drive and took us to John G's on more than one occasion! They were such a great host and hostess.
We will never forget his quick wit and the love he had for his family.
We regret that distance did not allow us to attend his Home Going Service.
God bless you all!

Sorry to learn of your dad’s passing. Did not know him personally, but what I read told me he was a fine man who loved God and people. Sounds like he had a great sense of humor.
Know he will be missed by many.

I was privileged to have Buz as part of the church at Bethel, Lake Worth , where I pastored for 20 years. He and his wife, Verlie, became friends and served in various ministries , using his talents and contribting greatly to the growth of the church as well as being an inspiration to so many. He will be sadly missed.

Buz was a good man , he loved to have fun and hosted several church Sunday school Christmas parties at his home with his wife. My parents were part of his Sunday school class from Bethel Ass. of God. He and his wife always made everyone feel welcome into their home. You will be missed but now at peace with God and your love ones. Jeanmarie Espina

For those of us who were privileged to spend time with Buz, at Wellington Elementary, on Safety Patrol Trips or on a personal level, we have truely lost our connection to the Camelot he created for all of us. It feels as though the screen has gone dark and the credits run all too soon. Buz may be no longer with us, but I can already see and hear him asking the Angels if they've heard the one about .....and Buz saying, " Oh, never mind, I'd like to hear it again anyways."
Our friend, mentor and fearless leader will be grieved for and missed by many, but he has left a living legacy and an example of how life can and should be lived and enjoyed. Love you!
