James Samuel Lawrence

From early on, James’s life was shaped by a steady faith and a calm, quiet spirit. In a family marked by traveling, singing, and evangelistic work, he learned to carry music and conviction together—gifts that would remain central throughout his years. He pursued his education at Nyack College for Music and later at Palmer Chiropractic College, preparing for a life of service expressed in more than one calling.

James served briefly in the Navy, and his working life reflected both versatility and dedication. He became known to many as a radio DJ in Corning, New York—“Cowboy Jim”—and through the program “Dial 'M' for Music,” later continuing his broadcasting work in Davenport, Iowa. In time, he brought the same attentive care to healthcare, practicing as a chiropractor in West Palm Beach at the Lawrence Chiropractic Center until the age of 83. His long career stood as a testament to patient commitment and a peaceful steadiness that reassured those who came to him for help.

On June 9, 1951, James married Elaine Lawrence, and they shared a devoted marriage until her death on May 31, 2022. Together they built a family that includes children James, Jill, and Jan (Lawrences), and Julie and Chris St. Pierre; grandchildren Lucien Keller, Shelby & Austin Fawcett, and Brogan Keller; and great-grandchildren Thea & Emrys Fawcett. Elaine, along with their children James and Jan (Lawrences), preceded James in passing.

In the life of his church, James gave generously of his musical gifts, serving for 30 years as Music Director at Forest Hill Alliance Church. Through that enduring ministry and through the daily example of his life, James leaves a legacy of faith to his family—one carried forward with gratitude, remembrance, and peace.
