John Wilson Glaze was born May 28,1936 in Vidalia, Ga. He was the eldest of three children born to Joe & Margaret Glaze. The family moved to St. Augustine when he was an infant and then to West Palm Beach, FL when he was just 6 years old. So, John was a resident of Palm Beach County for 83 years.
He grew up in the West Gate neighborhood of West Palm Beach and attended Palm Beach High, graduating class of 1955. While at PBH, he excelled at sports playing football with Burt Reynolds and baseball with Dick Houser.
John served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-1961 and rose from Private First Class to Sergeant.
He married the love of his life, Lois Bott, in 1962 and became father to his one and only daughter, Misty. Johnny, as Lois called him, was smitten from the very beginning and remained a devoted and loving husband even when he was very ill. As a father, he was the most inspiring, especially for a young woman who loved to play softball, ride horses and then go on to college to become a CPA. He provided all the love and confidence she needed. And as Grandpa, he was the biggest cheerleader in the stands at their cheer competitions, theatrical plays, volleyball matches, college graduations… everything! In his most recent role as Granddaddy, he loved all the hugs and kisses from the little ones!
John spent his entire career as an electrician with Florida Power & Light, spending the majority of his 37 years in the substation department and retiring as foreman in 1993. Before retirement and after, he loved to fish and hunt and spent many years going to the mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee. He especially loved to take his granddaughters fishing when they were younger.
His legacy is his family whom he loved with all his heart and soul.
John was predeceased by his parents, Joe & Margaret Glaze. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois, daughter, Misty Travani (Al) of West Palm Beach, sister Joanne Kelley of Georgetown, KY and his brother Mack Glaze (Vicky) of Palm Coast, FL. He dearly loved his granddaughters and great grandchildren: Brittany Romero (Andrew) & Owen (4) and Alyssa Mercy (Jose) & Cornelia (2) & Josiah (5 months), all residing in West Palm Beach. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
