Born on August 20, 1948, in Greenwich, Connecticut, Jon was the son of the late George and Catherine McDonough. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1966. Jon enjoyed playing hockey during high school and in his young adult years. In 1974, he, his wife, and daughter relocated to Lantana, Florida where two more children were subsequently born. He later found joy in umpiring local middle school and high school baseball.
Jon served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued a life of dedication to public safety. He served as a Deputy and later a Sergeant with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. After his retirement, Jon volunteered as an Auxiliary Sergeant with the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara McDonough; his parents, George and Catherine McDonough; and his sisters, Sharon Puhalainen and Cathy Pierce. He is survived by his loving family: children, Suzanne Juhl (Chris); Mark McDonough; and Victoria Browning; grandchildren, Erin Juhl, Ryan Juhl, and James Browning; and brother, Chris McDonough (Margaret).
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, July 17th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dorsey E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, Florida 33461. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 West Lantana Road, Lantana, Florida 33462.
