Jose Manuel Gomez, age 88, of Lake Worth, Florida passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Husband of 64 years, father, brother and friend. Jose “Manolo” as most knew him. Born in Cuba 1933, into the Gomez family, a very large family of 11 (6 F & 5 males), he was the 2nd oldest.

He worked hard to give his family a better life. In 1969, all four of us arrived in America, he was so proud to be here. His youngest brother Nestor RIP, had a job for him in New Jersey so we moved there until 1986.

His heart wanted that warm hot sun, and florida was on his mind where his young brother Nestor (RIP) lived. Finally in 1986, his wish came true and Lake Worth was home. He was so thrilled having a backyard, now he could grow anything. Well, it was more like “everything” we had sugarcane, pink & white grapefruits trees, lemon trees, watermelon, yams, yuca, bananas, it was a jungle in the back. He could build anything (probably where I get it from).

He loved the beach, fishing and having family and friends over. He loved to cook and as a child he would help his mother cook for the large family, he was very close to his mother. His favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Noche Buena Dec 24th, in which he would make a pig roast which was out of this world! Loved his candy. A wonderful big hearted man that carried no hate for anyone, that is my father.

In 2012, it was his 1st time in a hospital in his entire life, he was so proud of it and told every person that walked in his room. Unfortunalty for what he went in the 1st time is what took his life at the end.

He will be in heaven with his mother, father, sisters, brothers and nephews. You can rest in peace now, no more dialysis, surgeries, doctors visits. Just know you brought laughter in everyone life with your stories and jokes and you loved everyone. Thank you dad, Manny and I are proud to call you our “FATHER”. You never complained about anything. You left an empty hole in our hearts and everyone you touched, but you will have no more pain. We love you and miss you terribly.

A visitation for Jose will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461, with prayer services at 4:00 PM.
