Mark C. Martel

Born on October 15, 1961, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Mark spent his life connected to people, places, and experiences that meant a great deal to him. He was known as a kind and generous man with a quick wit and a sense of humor that was appreciated by many. He loved people, and the interaction he shared with others brought deep meaning to his life. He was thankful for those who touched his life and for those whose lives he touched in return.

Mark traveled widely and saw many parts of the world. Through those experiences, he lived what he described as a blessed life. He valued the generosity of others and recognized the care and support of those who loved him. His life was shaped not by accolades, but by human connection, gratitude, and the bonds he shared with friends and family.

He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

Among the activities Mark especially enjoyed were golf and surfing. Golf gave him not only enjoyment in the game itself, but also in the companionship that came with it. He cherished the people he played with, and seeing a friend make a hole in one brought him genuine delight. He also enjoyed surfing and did so in many places around the world, combining his love of travel with one of his favorite pursuits.

Mark is remembered by his 3 sisters and 2 brothers: Michelle (Chuck) McManus, Charles (Jenny) Martel, Thomas (Kate Kuhner) Martel, Andrea (Jeff) Griswold, and Margaret (Amos) Kaplan; by his nieces and nephews; and by special friends Patti Karlin, Rodney Schroeder and Sue Martel.

He was preceded in death by parents Charles and Constance Martel; Margaret and John Keating; stepbrothers Don Baxter, Craig Baxter, and Keith Baxter; great-niece Haley Gayler; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Those who knew Mark will remember his generosity, his humor, his appreciation for the people around him, and the way he embraced life’s moments, both large and small. His message was simple and heartfelt: smile and enjoy the life that is given. He believed that love rules in the end, and that belief remains a fitting remembrance of his life.

Friends may gather from 10:30am to 12:00 noon at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 4601 South Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Lakeside Presbyterian Church or to Mark's family.
