Marlene “Mimi” Diego was born on March 2, 1935, in Cuba, where she spent her early years and worked as a teacher before moving with her family to the United States in the 1970s to begin a new chapter of life. She built a long and dedicated career at Publix, where she worked for more than 35 years, forming friendships and touching the lives of countless coworkers and customers.
Family was the heart of Mimi’s world. She loved unconditionally, celebrated every milestone, and cheered for her loved ones as their biggest fan. To her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, she was simply “Mimi”— our source of endless love and support.
You would always find her in the kitchen, cooking delicious meals, brewing a fresh cafecito, and baking everyone’s favorite desserts. Her flan was the most requested, and her famous pasta salad will be missed at every gathering. Family get-togethers will never be quite the same without her special touch and warm presence.
Marlene is survived by her sister, America Cueto, along with many adoring family members. She is preceded in death by her beloved sisters Argentina, Idelisa and Mariana.
Mimi’s kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared with them.
