Mary Catherine DeFloria

91, of Wellington, Florida, passed away on January 10, 2014. She was born Mary Catherine Vnuk on January 31st, 1922 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. The Daughter of Veronica & Martin Vnuk. Mary was baptized in Holy Trinity Catholic Church February 12th 1922 also in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1941. Mary was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Company during World War II until she was accepted at Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, Michigan in 1944. After graduating from Nursing school she became a Registered Nurse in 1947 and practiced nursing in Greensburg, Pennsylvania were she met and was married to John Michael De Floria in 1949. John was a World War II and Korean War veteran. They moved to Miami in 1950 where she continued nursing at Doctor’s Hospital in Coral Gables while John attended the University of Miami. They moved to West Palm Beach in 1955 where John became the manager of Hamilton Electric and Mary practiced nursing at St Mary’s Catholic Hospital until 1963 when she became a full time mother to Michael Joseph and Maura Joanna De Floria. She became a Certified Counselor for the Palm Beach County Right to Life League in 1973, while continuing to be a full time mother.

Mary was proceeded in death by John in 1983. Survivors include her daughter Maura and her husband Nathan Norris, her son Michael and his wife Charie De Floria; grandchildren Katie and Christopher Gropp and Michael John De Floria. She will be dearly missed.

The family will receive their friends from 5 PM until 6:30 PM on Wednesday, January 15th at the funeral home with a prayer service to follow at 6:30 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, January 16th at St. Rita Catholic Church, 13645 Paddock Drive, Wellington, FL 33414. Mrs. De Floria will be laid to rest following her funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dorsey-E.
