January 28, 1934 - September 7, 2021
Mary Ruth Colosia deRochemont, age 87, passed away on September 7, 2021, at home with her husband of 65 years, Bernard. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama but was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee until she married and moved to Florida in 1956.
Ruth was a long-time parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church where she served as eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and servant leader of the prayer line ministry for many years. She participated in one of the early Christ Renews His Parish (2) retreats and remained close to her retreat "sisters" who were a source of joy and comfort to her. She looked to Christ and the Holy Spirit for guidance throughout her life.
When her children were young, she was involved in the Girl Scouts as coordinator for local troops. With the family, she spent many summers camping around the Southeast. She was very interested in genealogy and spent time writing letters and compiling information on the family tree (before there was the internet to help). Ruth enjoyed traveling with her husband after his retirement. Some of her favorite trips were to Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Grand Canyon, and Great Britain, visiting friends.
Ruth is survived by her husband Emmett Bernard deRochemont of West Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mary Annie and Gabriel Lucian Colosia, Sr. She was “Baby” to nine brothers and sisters and is survived by her sister Annie Grace Hales of Harrison, TN. She is also survived by her 5 children: Linda Lee Jones (Steve) of West Palm Beach, FL, Mary Elaine Gusse (Gary) of Lake Worth, FL, Teresa Marie Woolfe (Randy) of Jupiter, FL, Laura Diane Starr (John) of West Palm Beach, FL, and Steven Emmett deRochemont (Julie) of Lighthouse Point, FL. She has 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Ruth lived a life of service to her family, the Church, and her community. She was a kind Christian role model for her children and a wonderful wife and companion for her husband. She will be missed dearly but there is comfort knowing the Lord is welcoming her with the words "well done, good and faithful servant". She is at rest in His Peace.
A visitation will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Dorsey – E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 17, 2021, at 2:00pm at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415 followed by burial services at Lake Worth Memory Gardens, 3041 Kirk Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33461.
