
Nancy Anita Anderson Gunn was born in Kenosha. Wisconsin on October 22, 1928 to Harold Vladimir and Mary Elvira Anderson. Nancy was the first member of her family to complete grade school. Nancy Anita graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1946, and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Washington University School of Business in 1951. She was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Upon graduation Nancy became a buyer for the Carson Pirie Scott Department Store in Chicago and remained there until she moved to Florida, after marrying James B. Gunn in May of 1960. Nancy & Jim settled in Lantana, Florida where they owned Gunn’s Coin Laundry. They then constructed and ran Viking Cleaners, also in Lantana, FL. In her retirement, “Grandma Nancy” took excellent care of her granddaughter, Savannah, making sure she had the opportunity to follow her dreams.
Nancy passed peacefully on November 26, 2013, and is survived by her daughter, Karen Gunn Whetsell, her son in law Charles Gregory Whetsell, and her beloved granddaughter, Savannah Whetsell, along with her cat, Lucky. She is also survived by her cousins: Nancy Danielson of Oneonta, New York, Christine & Ron Weerheim of Ocean Grove, NJ, Karen & Kellie Ann McClosky of Oneonta ,New York, Carl Danielson Jr. of Yonkers, NY, Heidy, Andrew & Annabelle Siegel of Bradley Beach, NJ and Erik & Amelia Weerheim of Melbourne, Australia.
Services will be at 2 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2013. The family will receive their friends from 1:30 PM until her service time. Flowers are lovely, but a donation to Hospice of Palm Beach County in Nancy’s name will provide comfort to another family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461.
