It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our dad, Richard A. McClain. Richard was born on October 29, 1942, in Newark, New York, the beloved son of Dewey and Frances McClain.
Upon graduating from the University of Florida with his bachelor’s degree, he went on to earn his Juris Doctor law degree from Florida State University. While attending Florida State, Richard met and married MaryAnn, his wife of 58 years. Together, they moved back to his hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida. Richard was a devoted husband to his wife MaryAnn and the four daughters they raised. Richard and MaryAnn were blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Nothing made Richard happier than spending time with his family.
Richard lived a life defined by deep devotion to his family. This commitment began as a child while being raised in a large, loving family by devoted parents, along with his two brothers and three sisters. Yet, nothing brought him more happiness than being a loving husband, father, a beloved grandfather, and a treasured great-grandfather who made every child in his life feel like they were the greatest adventure he had ever embarked on. Whether he was charting a course by the stars, framing the perfect photograph, or simply gathering his loved ones around him, Richard approached every moment with generosity, compassion, and kindness.
After retiring from practicing law, he fell in love with sailing. He joined the local Power Squadron and started taking courses on celestial navigation, eventually becoming an instructor. As an active member of the Power Squadron, Richard later proudly served his term as Commander of his local unit. During this time he also enjoyed his weekly luncheons, activities, and yearly cruises to the Caribbean with the other members of his squadron.
He is preceded in death by his wife MaryAnn McClain, and survived by his daughters, Becky Hays, Stephanie (Doug) Mosley, Krissy (Rob) Day, and Julie (Dave) Goon; his grandchildren Wil (Kara) Hays, Courtney Mosley, Lauren VerPorter, Robby (Brianna) Hays, Colton Mosley, Danny Hays, Greg Day, David Goon, and Mikey Goon; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Natalie, Ember, Ari, William, and Hudson; his brother, Paul (Edna) McClain; sisters, Marilyn Golden, Doris (Richard) Meals, and preceded in death by brother, Orrin (Gail) McClain, sister Janet Powell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on June 22, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens, located at 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. The funeral service will follow at the same location, beginning at 2:00 pm.
A committal service is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Lake Worth Memory Gardens, also at 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461.
