Robert "Bob" John Filippone, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather, passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 98. Born on July 15, 1927, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Bob was known for being faithful, hard-working, loyal, and family-oriented.
Bob was an orphan who worked hard for everything he achieved in his life. He had to work from a very young age, including as a shoeshine boy, a farm hand, and a jewelry worker. While not formally educated, he had a tremendous variety of life experiences and was a wise and insightful person.
Throughout his life, Bob held many jobs, including various positions in the Rhode Island jewelry industry. He was co-owner of The Polishing House and also worked for Lang Jewelry, Ross Simons, and Tanury Brothers. Bob retired to Florida with his beloved wife Louise to be with his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, all of whom were his greatest pride and joy.
Bob was married to Louise (Cuccorelli) Filippone for 53 years. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. George, his grandsons, David J. George (and his wife Doris E. George) and Brian J. George (and his wife Kami George), his great grandchildren Craig Verderosa, Christopher Verderosa (and his wife Cynthia Verderosa), Thomas Verderosa (and his partner Mallorie Delapenha), Ashley George, Hailey George, Falyn George, and Hudson George, and his great great grandchildren Vincent Verderosa, Landon Verderosa, Edison Verderosa, and Tre Gaillard.
Bob enjoyed many personal interests and hobbies, including singing, photography, bocce, music, and participating in the church. He was also a semi-professional duckpin bowler and a ballroom dancer.
Bob was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in North Providence, RI, and Bethel Assembly of God in Palm Springs, FL. He was active in both churches as a member of their choirs and as an usher. Bob was a stickler for treating all people with respect and dignity, no matter what their circumstances in life. His most important dream was to have a family that loved and supported him, and he often said that his family was the most important thing in his life. Being an orphan, he was especially proud of being part of his family.
The last thing that Bob said about his family was that it was his greatest honor to be part of a family and that he felt blessed to say that his family were not just relatives, but also his best friends.
A Gathering of Friends & Family will be held at Dorsey - E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, Florida, on October 16, 2025, starting at 9:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 am at the same location.
