Ronald V. Heglund, 77, of West Palm Beach, Florida, was born April 13, 1949, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and died July 3, 2026, after a lengthy battle with bone cancer. His family is grateful that Ron is now pain free.
From an early age, Ron loved to share stories—just like his dad—and that gift for recounting life’s moments stayed with him. He grew up with a deep affection for the outdoors and the freedom it promised, spending time fishing—especially off the Lake Worth Pier—along with hunting, traveling, and, whenever possible, sleeping late. Before he had a car, he took on a paper route, learning responsibility while still making room for the simple joys he never outgrew.
Ron graduated from Lake Worth High School and went on to Florida State University, earning a BA degree in Business Administration. He later earned his CPA and began his professional life working for the IRS. Afterward, Ron held a variety of jobs, and his sense of adventure remained a steady companion—especially in his travels, with a particular fondness for the U.S. Southwest.
Ron was married for awhile and has a son who lives in Colorado. In the early 1990s, he moved back to Lake Worth and lived at home with his parents most of the time.
A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Ron found meaning and pleasure in hunting and fishing, returning again and again to the places and pastimes that made him feel most alive. He grew up in the Presbyterian Church and, in midlife, served on several committees, offering his time and advice.
Ron’s outlook was simple and memorable: live life to the fullest—and there was no need to be on time. Yet beneath that easygoing spirit was a sincere reminder he would want others to carry forward: tell the people you truly care about that you care about them, before they’re gone. In the last few months, Ron’s exchange with his sister, Nancy, captured that truth in the plainest, most tender words: “Love you.” “Love you more.”
Special thanks are extended to St. Ann's Catholic Services in West Palm Beach for the community service they offer, especially John Pescoslido and Stephanie Carden. The family is also deeply grateful to the many kind staff at Palm Gardens Skilled Nursing Center in West Palm Beach, especially Karen Brown, Activities Director, who cheered him up—and cheered the family, too. Appreciation is also offered to the Hospice staff, whose care and support were a comfort.
