Shirley Dorothy Herd
March 20, 1932 – July 30, 2022
Shirley Dorothy Herd, 90, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2022, surrounded by her family at Hospice in West Palm Beach. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur Herd and parents,Alka and Maureen Ezrow. She is survived by daughters Cathy Herd Lozier (John) and Karen Herd Hoyt (Andy); son Alan Herd (Jean); and grandchildren, Cole, Robbie, and Heather. Born in Churubusco, New York, on March 20, 1932, Shirley graduated from State University of New York Plattsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in education. She met husband Arthur while in college and they were married in October of 1953. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her relationships with her grandchildren were especially meaningful—they were the light of her world. She loved attending Cole’s vocal concerts and performances and cheering Robbie on at his baseball games, starting with T-ball through college. Shirley dedicated her life to helping others and cared deeply about those in need, teaching elementary education at various schools throughout New York and Florida. After retiring, she was very active at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, where she was President for many years. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Shirley’s honor to Saint Vincent De Paul Society (1000 W Lantana Rd, Lantana, FL 33462).
