

Shirley I. Schmitz, age 84, passed away September 17, 2025. Known as Daughter, Wife, Mom, Sister, Cousin, Nanny, Friend, and more. Shirley loved her family above all else. Predeceased by her mother and father: Dovie and Dessie Davis; husband: Jerome Schmitz, Sr.; and brother: Larry Davis.
Leaves to cherish her memory three children: Jerry Schmitz, Jr. (Diane Kolhagen), Carol Bass (Mike), Tim Schmitz (Ann); six grandchildren: Eric Keller, Lauren Dempsey (Joshua), Jarred Schmitz, Jonathan Schmitz, Hannah Schmitz (James Drake), and Marie Schmitz; four great grandchildren: James Keller, Kloe Keller, Samuel Dempsey, and Elena Dempsey; along with other extended family who have always meant so much to her.
Shirley was born in Robertsdale, Mississippi, and spent her young years living throughout the South before settling in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a graduate of Palm Beach High, Class of 1959. Shortly after, she met Jerry when he returned from the Air Force and married him after knowing him for only five weeks. He whisked her off to Niagara Falls, New York, where her three children were born, returning to Palm Beach County in 1971.
Shirley retired from the School District of Palm Beach County, where she worked as a Kindergarten Aide, School Bookkeeper, and finally as a Project Task Leader/Admin in the Department of Maintenance and Plant Operations, retiring after 32 years of service. Following her retirement, Shirley traveled to many countries through the world.
While flowers are welcomed, please consider a donation in lieu of in Shirley’s name to Trustbridge Hospice-Sunflower Team, who cared for her in her final days.
Services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025. Viewing at 10 a.m., Service at 12 noon, and Internment at 1 p.m. at Dorsey E. Earl Smith and Lake Worth Memory Gardens, 3041 Kirk Road, Palm Springs, Florida. Please feel free to wear flamingos in her honor.
