William P. King, known to friends as “Bill”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018, eleven days short of his 97th birthday. A native of Silverton, Oregon, Bill attended Oregon State University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corp and served during the final days of World War II. In September 1944 he met the love of his life, Carolyn Zimmerman, a Navy Lieutenant J.G. in New York City and they married June 10th, 1945 in Pottsville, PA. At the end of World War II he converted to a civilian job with the Army Security Agency and its follow on agencies. He worked for the National Security Agency until his retirement in 1980. He was passionate about Oregon State and active in the Beaver’s alumni organization. Bill was also active in the Palm Beach Civic Association, Rotary International, Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County and the Palm Worth Condominium Association where he served at different times in various capacities including as President, Treasurer and Historian. His wife, Carolyn predeceased him in 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Bruce) Whitely, two granddaughters, Heather (Chris) Palmer and Maegan Whitely (Eddie Espinoza), and 3 great grandchildren, Anthony, Mia and Zoe. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Royal Poinciana Chapel, 60 Cocoanut Row, Palm Beach, FL 33480.
