

Barbara Anne Lewellen, 80, passed away on May 22, 2018, at her home in Denver. Barbara was born December 9, 1937 in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Barbara spent the early part of her life in Illinois and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana when she was young. She attended Howe High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated in 1955. After High School she attended the University of Indiana and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After leaving school she returned to Indianapolis and began working for the Eli Lilly Company.
While working for Eli Lilly, Barbara met the love of her life, John Lewellen. After a whirlwind romance John and Barbara married on September 12, 1959 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. John and Barbara settled in Columbus, Indiana and were blessed with three children, Michael in 1960, Brad in 1962, and Diane in 1967. In September 1969 John and Barbara decided to move to Denver and they settled in Bear Valley.
Barbara worked at Swedish Hospital in the Emergency Room as an admissions specialist. Barbara retired in 1994 after more than 20 years of service with the hospital. In retirement, Barbara and John spent time traveling to many different locations including many extended visits to Port Aransas, Texas. Barbara was also very engaged with her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them and watching them participate in sports and theatre.
Barbara is survived by her sons Michael (Michelle) and Brad, her daughter Diane (Greg) Carlson, and grandchildren Bryan and John Carlson, and Laura Lewellen. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents Harold and Ida Henninger, brother Robert Henninger and grandson Evan Carlson.
Funeral Services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 6281 W Yale Ave, on June 9, 2018 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Atonement Lutheran Church in memory of Barbara Lewellen.
