Barbara Pearl Units

Barbara “Pearl” Units, 100, of Villisca Iowa, met her Savior on October 17, 2015 in Lakewood, CO. Born in the early 1900’s, Pearl was one of few remaining children whose fathers were Civil War Veterans.

Pearl was born November 11, 1914 in Villisca, Iowa to Jacob and Grace Butler, and grew up on a large farm and graduated from Villisca High School with a certificate in teaching.

On September 23, 1937, Pearl was united in marriage to Joseph John Units. They shared a love of church, singing, gardening and reading. They raised their three children on a small farm outside Villisca, Iowa where they lived for 38 years before retiring to Colorado to be close to family. Pearl and Joe were blessed with 66 years of marriage founded on great faith. They took pride in helping build small churches together and witnessing to others. They made friends easily, many lasting a lifetime. With each phase of life and in her final home at Harmony Pointe, Pearl befriended someone new. She loved fellowship and sharing life with others.

Pearl is survived by her children, Ruth (Phil) Young, Joe Dan Units, and Barbara (Jim) Couch, grandchildren Grace, Marc, Julie, Jamie, Joey, Beth, Carrie and Jessi; 14 great grandchildren, nephew Dale and his wife Sharman, and other beloved nephews, nieces and extended family.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers, husband Joe, and their infant son, Joel.

Pearl was a prayer warrior with amazing strength and capacity to love, rock solid in her faith. She lived a beautiful long life and blessed the day she would be reunited with her dear Joe and loving Savior.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on November 14, 2015 at Eaton Terrace 333 S. Eaton St., Lakewood, CO. Pastor Terry McGuire will officiate. Private burial will take place in Castle Rock, CO prior to the service.
