Beverly Marie Leach, 86, formerly of Grand Junction, CO, passed away on the evening of June 29, 2020 in Louisville, CO due to a cerebral infarction with Covid-19 as a secondary cause. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 in April, recovered, but it took its toll two months later.
She was born February 21, 1934 in New Underwood, SD, the daughter of Albert and Esther (Tischler) Lamke. She moved to Rapid City with her family when she was a young girl. She is a graduate from Rapid City High School, Rapid City, SD and enjoyed attending their reunions.
She married her sweetheart Jesse Leon Leach June 24, 1952. They were married for almost 44 years before she was widowed February 12, 1996. They had four children. Early in her marriage she lived in Rapid City, SD; McCook, NE; Moab, UT; and settled in Englewood, CO for 24 years. She and her husband moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1987, where she lived for almost 28 years. She spent her last five years in Boulder County, CO after suffering a stroke in Grand Junction, CO.
First a mother and homemaker, she worked at various jobs when her children were older, including as an assembler/inspector. She most enjoyed her last job at Creative Concepts in Grand Junction as an artisan making figurines that were sold to gift shops.
Beverly was always very family oriented, and as a young girl and woman enjoyed family gatherings and picnics. She loved making birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas, special for her children. Almost every summer she would return to Rapid City to visit her family and friends. Most Thanksgivings and every Christmas she travelled to the Front Range to celebrate with her children and grandchildren and would go to lunch with her longtime friends. During her retirement she went on many outings with her singles group, and regularly attended concerts, plays, and movies with her friends.
A lifelong Catholic, she was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Junction, CO.
Survivors include two sons, Dale M. Leach and his wife Pam, Henderson, CO; Jesse L. Leach and his wife Samantha, Morrison, CO; and one daughter Susan Leach and her husband William Hoagland, Boulder, CO. Other survivors include two sisters, Linda Bussey and husband Del, Vancouver, WA; Marlene Edler, Rapid City, SD; and sister-in-law Shirley Lamke Dixon, Glendale, CA, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was a grandmother to Christian, Loretta, Jerry, Hannah, and Laura (Dale); Jesse Garrett, Ian, and Lauren (Jesse) and Sarah Ann (Susan). Great grandchildren include Justin, Jade, Faith, Lillian Rose, Nadia, London, Azariah, Keziah, and Daniel (Dale); and Elizabeth and Cody (Susan).
She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse L. Leach, another son, Jesse David Leach, who was born and died on February 25, 1956 and brother Melvin A. Lamke of Rapid City, SD.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Parish, Boulder, Colorado. There will be a viewing preceding the mass beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Interment will be the following day, Friday, July 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
