March 10, 1949 - January 20, 2025
Dan Flores was a man of unwavering generosity, a sharp sense of humor, and a heart that embraced family, friends, and even the occasional spirited debate. Born in Alliance, Nebraska, to Elena (Vargas) and Dionicio Flores, Dan grew up in a large, loving family that shaped his values of hard work, loyalty, and dedication to those he cared about.
Dan’s High School track success and journey led him to Kearney State in Nebraska, where he earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Education. Directly after college he spent a year teaching and coaching at Kearney Catholic High School. Though he loved working with students, his career path took a different turn when he joined UPS, dedicating 30 years of service to the company with his last position as Regional Labor Manager. No matter the role, Dan approached his work with pride and determination, embodying the values of perseverance and excellence.
Beyond his professional life, Dan had an unshakable love for sports. Whether he was playing baseball and running track in his younger years or passionately watching games from the sidelines, sports were an integral part of his life because of his competitive spirit. He was also known for his quick wit and ability to spark conversations often stirring the pot with a political debate or captivating those around him with a lively story. He had a way of making people laugh, even if he was pushing their buttons just a little or a lot.
Dan was, above all, a devoted family man. He was the husband of his wife, Connie, and a proud father to Travis, Derrick, Damian (Yvette), Trevor, and Cindee. His greatest joy came from being a grandfather to his 10 grandchildren, six grandsons and four granddaughters who brought endless light into his life. He is also survived by his nine sisters and five brothers, a testament to the strong family bonds that shaped him.
Dan now joins his parents, his beloved oldest sister Juanita, brothers-in-law Dee and John, sister-in-law Dixie, great-nephew Michael, and many more dear family members who have gone before him.
Dan always had an idiom to teach about life. Such as “Show me a man with no shoes and I will show you a man with no feet”. Representing to be grateful for everything you have and not dwell in what you don’t. We were grateful to have had Dan in our lives and he will be dearly missed! Dan’s presence in our lives was larger than life itself, his stories, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
In honor of Dan’s generous spirit, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Childrens’ Hospital, causes that reflect his deep respect for service and his compassion for others.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Golden Cemetery in Golden, CO, with a reception to follow.
