Duane Edwin Strandberg, age 86, of Arvada, Colorado passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 11, 1937 to Elmer and Doris Strandberg. He graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln, NE in 1955, and the University of Nebraska with BSME in 1964. During a Youth for Christ event, Duane was greeted by the lovely JoAnn Hinze and won her heart over a ping pong match. They were married for 65 years.
Duane started his career as an engineer for General Motors on the Apollo project, and then later received an offer from Western Electric, eventually becoming an engineer for Avaya Lucent (formerly AT&T) for over 30 years. When he retired as an engineer he began a career in funeral service as a funeral director at Olinger Crown Hill. Duane fell ill and had to retire from funeral service, but not before pursuing his passion for dove releases, which he did for a lot of years, until he completely retired.
When not at work Duane was rooting on his grandchildren in Basketball and Baseball, after all he won the Lincoln Northeast High School Basketball Hall of Fame Award for the Class of 1955. He could also be found cheering on his Nebraska Huskers. His favorite activity though was volunteering at his church as an elder. He had been with the church since 1970 when it was Community Baptist, until it's closure as CenterPoint Community Church.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amy Jo; and his sister, Donna. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, JoAnn; children, Suzanne, Molly (Brian) and Erik; grandchildren, Aubrey, Joseph, Connor, Charlie, and Anna Grace; niece, Julie and nephew, Randy; as well as many extended family members and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Please come and honor Duane at a casual celebration of life service open house from 4-6PM on May 28th with time of remembrance, light refreshments and root beer floats. Morningside Manor: 13251 W 64th Ave, Arvada Co 80004.
