

Fedelina“Lena” Martinez, 92, entered Paradise the evening of May 6, 2013. She was surrounded and by her loving family and her caregivers who supported her during the last days of her earthly journey. Lena was born in Garita, NM, on June 19, 1920. She helped raise her sister Mary after her mother passed when she was 7 years old. At the tender age of 16 she married Juan Martinez and together had 10 children. Juan later passed away in 1968. For the majority they lived in Denver, CO., but for the last 8 years Lena lived in Houston, TX.
Lena proved to be a strong and independent women and endured many hardships in her life's journey, and her faith in God gave her the strength to prevail. Even in her last days she still had a positive attitude and a sense of humor.
Lena who was called" Granny" became a surrogate grandmother to all she met. She had a caring heart, like no other and touched the lives of many people with her glowing smile and generous heart.
Granny had a love and passion for spending time outside gardening, taking walks and also, shared this passion with watching her Spanish Novelas.
Lena is survived by seven children: Josephine Chavez, Louise Mays, Robert Martinez, Macario Martinez, Paul Martinez, Alejandro Martinez, Ruth Knittel and beloved son-in-law Paul Knittel; 24 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, Lena was preceded in death by her husband Juan Martinez, her son Leroy Martinez, daughters Mary Munoz and Andrelita Archuleta. Son-n-laws Joe Munoz, Don Mays and Ben Arculeta. Grandsons James Martinez and Terry Martinez.
Lena is also survived by her sister Mary Montoya, nephew, nieces, great nephews and great nieces that referred to her as "Nana".
She will be missed by all including by her protective Chihuahua, Peach.
Please join Lena's family in the celebration of her life on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at St. Anthony's Church, 3801 W Ohio, Denver, CO 80219, for a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and mass at 11:00 am. Afterwards all is welcomed to escort Lena to Mt. Olivet Cemetery 12801 W. 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 to witness the lowering of her casket, in her final resting place.
