Jilla Nabavi Nouri Woroniecki, 75, of Old Tappan, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Vail, Colorado, with her beloved husband, Ed, by her side. She spent her final days surrounded by family in the Colorado mountains, and on her last morning, looking out at Vail, she said, "Oh my God, this is heaven."
Jilla was born in Tehran, Iran, to Esmat and Abdoul.
She met Ed on a blind date. He was only the substitute, because the first choice had fallen ill, but it turned out to be destiny. The Iranian revolution brought Jilla to America with Ed, and together they began an enchanted life of travel. Ed's work took them to South Africa, Brazil, and France, and their love of travel took them to the rest of the world.
Jilla lived by one rule: no tears, only happy thoughts. She made everyone around her feel special and always looked on the bright side of life. As a result, she gathered a remarkable circle of friends across the world, from Australia to Europe, all over America, and Iran. She loved Europe above all, especially its charm and old-world beauty. Her greatest joy in recent years was her grandchildren.
Jilla is survived by her husband, Bogdan Edward "Ed" Woroniecki; her son Aryan, his wife, Carole, and their two wonderful children, Ethan and Ella; her son Peter, his wife, Erin, and their son, Banks; her brothers, Bahram, his wife, Parvaneh, and their son, Behzad, and Behrooz and his daughter, Reyhaneh; and many dear friends around the world.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal funeral. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Saturday, October 17. For details, please contact the family at [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jilla's memory to the Lustgarten Foundation (lustgarten.org), 504 RXR Plaza, Uniondale, NY 11556.
