John Martinez Zapien, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 87. John was born on July 02, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture and warmth of his community, which shaped his compassionate and generous spirit throughout his life.

John was preceded in death by numerous brothers, one sister, and his beautiful daughter Anastasia. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, with whom he shared almost 68 cherished years of marriage. John is also survived by his children: Greg, Vickie, Steven, Paul and his wonderful daughter in law, Amanda. His legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Alejandro, Evianna, Guillermo, Esteban, Pablo, Esperanza, Casandra, Estrella, Juanita, Greg, Felicia, and John Paul who brought him immense joy and pride. Additionally he is survived by numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

John was known for his hardworking nature, family values and a commitment to help those less fortunate. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family and the community. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer wise advice or to hold you captive with one of his exciting stories. His kindness, warmth and great sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by his family and friends alike.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and generosity that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will be forever loved and deeply missed.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11AM at Annunciation Catholic Church in Denver. A reception will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 2PM at The Elks Club on Newland Street in Lakewood.
