Laquita “Petie” was born April 3, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas. The eldest of 3, Laquita loved taking care of her brothers and family. She lived in Ardmore and Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduating high school in 1952, she followed her passion of caring for others and enrolled in nursing school in Denver, CO. Laquita earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate in 1956 and began working at St. Anthony Hospital.
Soon after, she met the love of her life, an Air Force man named Raymond J. Linton. They married in 1961 and began traveling the country. While stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, Laquita and Ray welcomed their daughter, LaRay. Military life took them to California, Mississippi, and back to Colorado. During Ray’s service in the Vietnam War, Laquita continued raising her little family and stayed busy working with the community in Wheatland, Wyoming. A devout catholic, Laquita served the Lord by serving others with unwavering generosity and support. Laquita always imagined herself commanding a house full of children and often opened her home to all those who needed a place to be. Anyone who passed through her door was considered family. Her volunteer efforts were extensive, including work with Meals on Wheels, PTA, TOPS, and many more.
Nature was always a comfortable place for Laquita to be and she enjoyed spending any free time fishing and camping with her family. She worked hard to pass on her experience to her daughter and grandchildren, instilling a love for the outdoors in their hearts as well. For many years, Laquita enjoyed a variety of hobbies. Always a sports fanatic, she played basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf and bowling. She could always be found playing cards with friends or RVing across the country with Ray.
Laquita will be remembered as a servant to her community, a trusted friend, and loving mother and grandmother.
Laquita’s ashes will be interred at Fort Logan Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Dominican Home Health Agency, (303) 322-1413 http://dominicanhha.org/
