
A graduate of Denver Seminary, M Div, Les worked at Holly Hills Baptist Church in early years. After that, he worked at St James Presbyterian Church as senior pastor for 23 years and was an Interim Pastor at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian and Corona Presbyterian Churches.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Avery, parents: Lydia Hege and Kenneth Avery senior, and brothers Peter Avery and Kenneth Avery Jr., and sons John Avery and Thomas Avery.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Charis-Avery, daughters, Jodi Burley (spouse Elbert Burley) and Jennifer Savig (spouse Stuart Savig) and son Ned Avery (spouse Kim Avery) as well as Diana Joy (Jacqueline Avery's daughter).
He is also survived by grandchildren: Gen Avery, Raymond Avery (Garyu), Seth McEwan, Alicia McEwan, Ashleigh Millison, Jennifer Peppler, Chelsey Lahr, Amber Yaeger, Tanner Avery, Josiah Savig, Tate Savig, Alec Savig, Katrina Savig-Wheeler, and Blythe Burley, as well as their spouses and descendants.
Les passionately loved his wife, his family, bicycling, and Jesus Christ. He rode thousands of miles throughout the United States, New Zealand and elsewhere.
The family would like to thank Zulma Yunt MD, Katie Rosen NP and Christopher Dyke, MD of National Jewish Hospital for their fantastic care as well Dr John Schultz who was his family physician for many years and gave such personalized attention.
Les Avery's celebration of life will be held on January 10, 2026, at 1:00 pm at St. James Presbyterian Church, 3601 W. Belleview Ave. Littleton, Colorado.
